Job description

We are seeking a passionate Senior Software Engineer to join a team building tools that will enable the next decade of scientific discovery in human medicine. The Pipelines Infrastructure team is building tools to support the processing of high volume genetic data for research and clinical use.

The team: We are seeking a skilled engineer to join a team developing Workflow Launcher (https://github.com/broadinstitute/wfl), a workload manager geared towards bioinformatics and scientific workflows. No medical, genomics, or scientific background is required, just an enthusiasm to improve the world of science and medicine, an ability to write exceptional software, and the ability to collaborate with scientists.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant work experience
5+ years of Software Development experience is preferred, though exceptional candidates with less will be considered.
Strong background in modern distributed system patterns, practices, and principles
Familiarity with microservices
Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
Experience delivering clear, maintainable, and well-tested software in a timely manner
Experience working with stakeholders to develop and document requirements
Excellent communication skills
Experience with mentoring team members and giving timely, actionable feedback
Experience influencing the technical direction of a feature and/or product area
Familiarity with cloud environments (eg. GCP, Azure, AWS, etc.).
Any of the following is a plus:
Familiarity with Clojure or any functional programming language
Familiarity with big data processing pipelines (e.g., Google Pipelines API, WDL, CWL, Docker).
Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Helm).
Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems.
