Job description
We are looking for a Cloud Engineer to report to our Senior Product Manager Lead. This role will support cloud hosting maintenance for the PyreCast platform, including architectural design, troubleshooting, and PyreCast product deployments.

PyreCast is an advanced, open-source, near-term wildfire forecasting and risk-analysis platform built by Cloudfire, LLC and Spatial Informatics Group, LLC, managed and marketed by PyreCast, LLC. Designed for utilities, emergency managers, state and federal agencies, insurers, and risk practitioners, PyreCast transforms advanced wildfire science into an actionable decision support tool for real-world operations.

REQUIRED
EU residency / presence in Ireland / willingness to relocate to Ireland
Deep understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Firestore, and Cloud Functions
Experience with Cloud Identity & Access Management (IAM) and service accounts in GCP
Expertise in Terraform for automating cloud infrastructure deployment
Experience building CI/CD pipelines and automating routine tasks using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions
Experience in building, deploying, and managing RESTful APIs
Knowledge of API Gateway services in GCP or alternatives
Understanding of networking concepts (VPCs, load balancing, firewalls)
Experience with data processing pipelines and big data tools like Apache Beam/Dataflow
Experience in Clojure/Clojurescript or experience in either Java/Javascript and/or a different Lisp dialect (e.g., Scheme, Common Lisp)
Comfortable working in a Linux environment from the command line and administering remote servers over SSH
Fluent in version control procedures with Git and Github/Gitlab, including creating/closing issues, creating/reviewing/merging pull requests, and good branch management
Good at working in a distributed team environment with frequent text, voice, and video communications with other developers

Nice to HAVE
Managerial or project/product management experience
Familiar with functional programming techniques (e.g., pure functions, immutable data, closures, laziness, function composition, memoization)
Experience with SQL DB programming in PostgreSQL
Experience with web mapping libraries (e.g., Mapbox) and/or web mapping services (i.e., WMS, WCS, WFS) and servers (e.g., GeoServer)
Experience with geospatial processing using PostGIS, GeoTools, and/or GDAL/OGR
